Laura Osnes is a Tony Award-nominated actress and singer who has starred in some of the most popular Broadway musicals of recent years, including Grease, South Pacific, Anything Goes, and Bonnie and Clyde. Osnes’s father, Ron Osnes, is a professional trumpet player. Her mother, Kristi Osnes, is a pianist and vocal coach. Both parents were active in the music scene in Osnes’s hometown of Burnsville, Minnesota.
Osnes started singing and playing the piano at a young age. She was a member of her church choir and took voice lessons from her mother. When she was 11 years old, she landed the lead role in her school’s production of The Wizard of Oz.
After high school, Osnes attended the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point, where she studied musical theater. She dropped out after one year to pursue a professional career.
Osnes made her Broadway debut in 2007 in the revival of Grease. She won the Theatre World Award for her performance. She went on to star in South Pacific, Anything Goes, and Bonnie and Clyde.
In 2013, Osnes starred in the title role of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella on Broadway. She received a Drama Desk Award and her second Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical.
Osnes is married to Nathan Johnson, a fellow actor and singer. They have one son.
