Ayman was a physician, theologian, and terrorist. He became the leader of al-Qaeda in June 2011 succeeding Osama bin Laden. He was previously a senior member of Islamist organizations which led attacks in Asia, Africa, North America, and Europe.
As a physician, Ayman was reportedly a qualified surgeon. He worked in a Red Crescent hospital in Pakistan and Kuwait treating wounded refugees.
Al-Zawahiri was killed at age 71 on July 31, 2022. He was killed by a drone strike conducted by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.) in Kabul, Afghanistan.
